Department of Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering deals with the design, development, manufacturing and maintenance of machinery. Today Mechanical Engineer needs to have capacity of adaptability and creativity in the new technical areas. Mechanical Engineering involves knowledge not only in their own specialized fields but also in wide interdisciplinary fields as well. To meet the above requirements Mechanical engineering department offers UG course in Mechanical Engineering with an intake of 120 students which has been permanently affiliated to Pune University and twice accredited by NBA.

             The department has well qualified and dedicated staff members and is known for its high academic standards, well maintained discipline and completes infrastructure facilities. A separate CAD/CAM laboratory has been developed with various software’s such as Ideas, Master- Cam, Ansys-14, Pro-E Wildfire5, Catia, Unigraphics-NX4, CNC 2000 etc. and CNC milling & lathe machines, Robotic Workstations & Electric

Discharge Machine has been added. Engine emission testing equipment’s like CO-HC gas analyser and diesel smoke meter is also available in Internal Combustion Engine laboratory. Fast Fourier Transformer (FFT), Pin on Disc test rig and Journal Bearing test rig is available P.G. laboratory to enhance the research activities.  

            Every year department is receiving a grant for research activities from BCUD, Pune. Apart from deputing the staff members for higher studies, they are encouraged to attend various conferences, seminars, workshop to upgrade their knowledge. Many staff members have presented and published papers at both National & International level journals/conferences. The department is also conducting various certificate courses in CAD, C & C ++, CNC programming and Ansys for the students as per the needs of the industry. A separate library is functioning under the “Mechanical Engineering Students Association” (MESA) which contains books for competitive exams like GRE, TOEFL, CAT, GATE etc. Department have organized the certificate course in Pro-E wildfire course for the benefits of students. The association also organizes Guest lecturer by experts from industry and reputed institution. The academic performance of the students is also impressive.

Laboratories

Applies Thermodynamics Laboratory:

Thermodynamics is the branch of physical science concerned with heat and its relation to other forms of energy and work. It defines macroscopic variables (such as temperature, entropy, and pressure) that describe average properties of material bodies and radiation, and explains how they are related and by what laws they change with time. Thermodynamics does not describe the microscopic constituents of matter, and its laws can be derived from statistical mechanics. Lab consists of Steam power plant, Bomb calorimeter, Multistage Compressor Test rig etc.

Theory of Machines Laboratory:

The subject Theory of Machines may be defined as that branch of Engineering - Science, which deals with the study of relative motion between the various parts of machine, and forces which act on them. The knowledge of this subject is very essential for an engineer in designing the various parts of a machine. Lab Consists of Compound Pendulum

Apparatus, Bifilar Suspension Apparatus, Trifilar Suspension Apparatus, Hooks Joint Angular measurement apparatus etc.

Electrical Technology Laboratory:

Electrical engineering technology (EET) is an engineering technology field that implements and applies the principles of electrical engineering. The role of electrical engineering technologists, or technicians, (EETs) may be broadly defined as: "Electrical engineering technologists help to design, develop, test, and manufacture electrical and electronic equipment [and] may work in product evaluation and testing, using measuring and diagnostic devices to adjust, test, and repair . Lab consists of DC  Shunt  Motor load test set up, DC  Series  Motor load test set up, V-I Characteristics of SCR  and  TRAIC, Three  Phase  Induction  Motor  load Test set up, Variable DC rectifier etc.

CAD / CAM Laboratory:

Computer-aided design (CAD), also known as computer-aided design and drafting (CADD),[1] is the use of computer systems to assist in the creation, modification, analysis, or optimization of a design. Computer-aided drafting describes the process of creating a technical drawing with the use of computer software. CAD software is used to increase the productivity of the designer, improve the quality of design, improve communications through documentation, and to create a database for manufacturing.
Software Installed: AutoCAD, Pro-E/CATIA/UG, C, C++, VB etc.
